Carolina Herrera Switches Eveningwear For Loungewear
When you think of Carolina Herrera, what springs to mind? Amazing eveningwear, right? But the designer has teamed with young lingerie designer Arielle Shapiro to create a capsule collection of amazing luxury sleepwear that taps into the current penchant for pyjama style dressing and quality loungewear.
The partnership, which might seem like a strange pairing, is part of the CFDA incubator program. Herrera’s team reportedly spotted the young designer during an open house before approaching her about working on the special line. Talking to Fashionista, Shapiro said it still has sunken in. “The brand has always been a beacon of elegance, something to aspire to,” she told them. “I’ve been enamoured with Carolina Herrera my whole life.”
This seems like the perfect way for established brands to support young designers is a meaningful way. While the scholarship programs shouldn’t be knocked, the reality is that the funding doesn’t tend to go very far so pairing with designers in this way, teaching them about the demand of designing for a mass audience and on a large scale is probably more valuable. It’s one of the reasons Topshop’s partnership with young British designers on special capsule collections has always worked so well. So hopefully this marks the start of more established brands working with young labels like this.
The collection will be sold at Herrera’s flagship stores in Los Angeles, Dallas, Bar Harbour and New York in November with prices starting from $460.
