Fei Fei Sun Is Vogue Italia’s First Chinese Cover Star
Fei Fei Sun has been on the scene for a while but now she’s officially arrived, as she was chosen by Franca Sozzani to front Vogue Italia‘s January issue. It marks the first time a Chinese model has appeared solo on the cover.
Steven Meisel shot the model in a homage to ’50s supermodel China Machado, as a part of a wider ambition to prove that “the language of style is universal: border-free.” Talking to The Cut, Sozzani described the cover as “extravagant, eccentric and elegant…showing a new chic mood in fashion and how the Asian girls have a classy and special beauty.”
Vogue Italia has long been a supporter of a diverse representation of beauty in fashion. Over the past five years Sozzani has gone a long way in making black and plus size models more visible in the magazine and with this latest cover, hopefully we’ll see more Asian models too.
