There’s No Place Like Home
I’m a real home girl at heart. As much as I love the travelling and incredible events that come hand in hand with my job, there’s nothing I enjoy more than cosying up indoors. I’m not suite sure whether that’s not just the old woman in me talking but there’s nobody I’d rather be.
This Christmas break has been incredible for many reasons. There’s nothing better than having an opportunity to recharge and surround yourself with your nearest and dearest but more than anything, after spending the last few days lounging inside, it dawned on me that this the probably the longest time I’ve spent here since moving in this time last year. For the past 12 months, home has almost been like a base camp between all of my toing and froing but that’s about to change.
2014 is the year that I vow to give my humble abode a bit more love and really focus on my interiors. It started with my Christmas presents this year. Realising that I won’t be running short of clothes or beauty products any time soon, the majority of gifts I received this year were for my house and over the past few weeks, I’ve slowly swapped my usual favourite fashion magazines for interior ones.
Anyone that follows me on Pinterest will know that I’m a fan all of things minimal and Scandinavian so naturally the images and interiors I’ve been drawn to are those that depict rooms that are stripped back. Jenna Lyons’ Manhattan home does that so well. It’s full of modern, paired back pieces but with enough quirky features thrown in to make it look personal and inviting without looking stark and cold. Blogger Kelly Frankel of The Glamourai has the look mastered too with interiors in her house.
The January issue of ELLE Decoration is dedicated to the style I’m going for. The theme of the issue is Easy Timeless Style and many of the images inside feature beautiful homes with stunning original features like old school carved fireplaces set alongside decadent chandeliers offset by minimal chairs and monochrome colours. Talking about colours, all you need to do is look at the latest issue of ELLE Sweden for proof that sticking to a simple two-tone colour scheme of white and grey is far from dull.
These are some of the images inspiring me right now.
